Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Requirements
What are you required to do?
There are six key stages of meeting Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) requirements.
- Undertake an initial estimate of your total energy consumption.
- Identify areas of significant energy consumption and prioritise areas with significant energy saving opportunities.
- Consider and choose the most appropriate routes for compliance.
- Assign a lead assessor to conduct and/or supervise your energy audits.
- Get the Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) assessment signed off at the director/board level.
- Submit a formal notification to Environmental Agency (EA) confirming compliance by the due date.
Identification of Energy Reduction Opportunities (ERO)
To ensure compliance, the audit must:
- Identify energy intensive areas
- Cover at least 95% of the total energy use
- Define energy use profiles
- Include the fuel consumption of any company-owned or leased vehicles
- Measure and audit the fuel used within the business
- Identify energy-saving opportunities and calculate the potential energy/cost savings
